Several Masters World Records Fall at Santa Clarita Meet

SANTA CLARITA, California, May 21. SEVERAL Masters world records took a tumble at the Santa Clarita Masters meet held over long course during this past weekend.

Jurgen Schmidt, swimming in his first meet in the 85-89 age division, whacked more than 40 seconds from the 1500 freestyle previously set by Jim Eubank with a 29:53.88 in 2000. Schmidt recorded a time of 29:12.85 while representing Lompoc's Other Swim Team.

Dawn Heckman of Rose Bowl Aquatics clocked a time of 17:32.48 in the women's 1500 freestyle in the 30-34 age group to break the 12-year-old record of 17:38.70 set by Karen Burton back in 1996.

Meanwhile, Erik Hochstein of Southern California Aquatics broke the men's 40-44 100 freestyle global record of 53.45 set by Rich Saeger in 2006. Hochstein posted a time of 53.29 during the meet.

Additionally, Rita Simonton ran down five women's 90-94 freestyle standards during her 1500 free swim. She clocked a time of 2:14.57 at the 100, 4:37.44 at the 200, 9:28.91 at the 400, 19:19.11 at the 800 and 36:28.48 at the 1500.
