May 8, 2008 Not oly did Gabriella Silva break her own pr/NR/South American 100 fly record in the finals with her 59.13, but in the prelims she became the first - and ONLY -- Central/South American woman ever under 59.0 witgh her 58.90.
And coungtrywoman Daynara De Paula did her part too, going a pr 59.30 in the m orning, the n 59.81 at night.
First time two South American women ever uneder 1:00.0 in same race.
Don't look back, Nattalie, they're gaining on you!
And in men's 200 free prelims Florida's Lucas Salata, more known as a backstroker, went a pr 1:49.17.
Guido's South American record 25.04 in 50 back even more reason to press FINA/IOC to implement 50 stroke events for London! And while we're wishing for things that'll NEVER happen in my lifetime, how 'bout a return to three per country per event?
Track has it and nobody sez boo when the Kenyans sweep the 5000 or the 10000 or the U.S. goes 1-2-3 in the sprints.
Nobody understands a 400 IM (sorry, Michael!)and the 1500 is a yawner too (sorry, Grant/Larsen/Yuriy!) but throw in the 50s and you'd haved the crowd go bonkers!
Greatest invnetion since the wheel!!!
In fact, make theBig O's a 25 meter competition and throw i nthe 50s and the 100 IM too. That'd make our favorite sport No. 1 for sure!!!
