Belgium Nationals: Second Day Comes to Close

MOLENBEEK, Belgium, May 2. THE second day of swimming at the Belgium Nationals came to a close in Molenbeek.

National-record holder Nina Van Koeckhoven nipped Griet Buelens in the women's 200 free, 2:03.48 to 2:03.85, for the win to start the second day. Buelens would later lay claim to the women's 1500 free title with a time of 16:58.91.

Yoris Grandjean surfaced triumphant in the men's 100 free with a time of 49.85, missing his national record of 49.09.

Elodie Vanhamme then beat national-record holder Silke Van Hoof in the women's 100 back, 1:03.29 to 1:05.02, while missing Van Hoof's standard of 1:02.86. Bruno Claeys, who has the Belgian record with a 26.13 in the men's 50 back, wound up with the easy win in 26.57.

Mathieu Fonteyn, also the national record holder with a 1:56.86 in the men's 200 fly, cruised to victory in the event with a time of 2:01.48. Meanwhile, Fanny Lecluyse won the women's 200 IM title in 2:19.65. Bjorn Balliu then snagged the men's 200 breast crown in 2:21.94.

The team of Jasmijn Verhaegen, Kim Janssens, Ariane Doms and Kim Caluwaerts then won the women's 400 medley relay in 4:25.00.
