TYR Swim Meet of Champions: Distance Free Opens Meet -- April 24, 2008

MISSION VIEJO, California, April 24. A pair of distance freestyle events opened the meet at the TYR Swim Meet of Championships held in Mission Viejo, Calif.

Fans were fortunate enough to witness Kate Ziegler take down the women's 1500 freestyle world record of Janet Evans last year at the meet. Evans' 800 free standard of 8:16.22, however, was never in trouble during the first night of swimming.

Lynette Lim, 15, wound up with the victory in the 800 with a time of 8:51.90, while Lyndsay De Paul (8:56.19) and Amber McDermott, 15, of Salmon Bay (8:58.84) completed the top three.

American-record holder Larsen Jensen was listed as being disqualified in the men's 1500 free, which opened the door for hometown favorite Fran Crippen. Crippen closed the event out with a convincing win of 15:18.51.

Teammate Deni Cullom, 16, finished second in 15:46.49, while another Nadadore Nick Divan took third in 15:57.36.

April 25, 2008 Still working on it. Not quite sure. The way it is listed, it could either be not showing up or actually being DQed. Will let you know.
