Polish Championships: Final Day Features Near Record Swims

OSTROWIEC, Poland, April 6. THE final day of the Polish Championships held in Ostrowiec offered up a few near-national record performances.

Piotr Galka won the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.81 as he upset national-record holder Slawomir Wolniak (1:02.85) by a close margin. The duo also made a run at Wolniak's 2006 national record of 1:02.12.

Pawel Korzeniowski then took a shot at Konrad Galka's 50 fly national record of 24.41 as Korzeniowski stopped the clock in 24.56. He had to hold off Konrad Czerniak, who placed second in 24.67.

In other battles, national-record holder Lukasz Gasior downed Kajetan Zaluski, 50.10 to 50.23, in the men's 100 free, while Anna Dowgiert touched out Malgorzata Gembicka, 27.81 to 27.93, in the women's 50 fly.

Meanwhile, Katarzyna Wilk won the women's 100 free in 56.92, while national-record holder Beata Kaminska took the women's 100 breast in 1:10.11

In distance events, Katarzyna Baranowska won the women's 800 free in 8:53.25, while national-record holder Mateusz Sawrymowicz claimed the men's 1500 free title in 15:09.59.
