Kansas Men’s High School State Championships

TOPEKA, Kansas, April 3. SHAWNEE Mission East picked up its fourth straight men's Kansas state title, but Olathe East, the winner of the final event, proved to be a worthy adversary as the runner up.

Shawnee Mission East scored 294 points throughout the meet, edging out the runner up Olathe East men by two points (292). Overland Park-Blue Valley North followed closely behind the top two finishers in third place with 197 points.

Shawnee Mission East destroyed the 200 medley relay record when the grouping of Spencer Sherard, Brad Crist, Brogan Runion and Levi Mische combined respective 50 splits of 26.75, 25.52, 22.82 and 20.80 to finish in 1:35.89. That time erased a 7-year-old record set by Overland Park-Blue Valley North (1:37.57). Shawnee Mission East also managed a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, as the foursome of Mische, Jack Stalder, Runion and Crist clocked a 1:27.51.

Mische, who according to The Shawnee Sun has narrowed his college choices between Henderson State University and the University of Missouri, posted two gold-medal performances in the individual events. Mische finished the two-lap 50 freestyle in 21.30 before winning by more than a second in the 100 freestyle (46.55).

Andy Krantz from Overland Park-Blue Valley Northwest won the diving title with a 420.45 score. Brandon Stoppelmoor of Olathe Northwest came in second with a 415.65 score while Shawnee Mission North's Luke Calkins took third, scoring a 405.05.
