NCAA Division I Men's Champs: Georgia's Chris Colwill Regains One-Meter Title -- March 27, 2008

FEDERAL WAY, Washington, March 27. AFTER taking a year off from collegiate competition, Georgia's Chris Colwill returned to reclaim his one-meter title at the NCAA Division I Men's Championships.

Colwill, who had previously won in 2006 with a tally of 407.10 points, improved that total to win the one-meter title for the second time. He amassed 407.25 points to grab the crown. He had to come from behind as he drilled his reverse 2.5 somersault from a pike position for 76.80 points.

"I felt pretty good today. I took (last) year off to train for the World Championships," Colwill said. "Now that I am back in the college atmosphere, it feels really good. I just take (each competition) one step at a time. Sometimes, depending on the competition, I know I need to step it up and do what it takes to win. That's what I had to do on the last dive today. Now that I have the first (event) out of the way, I will be relaxed and ready to go tomorrow."

Hawaii's Magnus Frick placed second with 399.70 points, while defending champion Terry Horner of Florida State finished third in 396.15.

Arizona led the team total with 97 points, while Texas stood second with 88 points. Auburn (79), California (78) and Stanford (61) completed the rest of the top five.
