ORLANDO, Florida, March 18. THE National Club Swimming Association (NCSA) Junior National Championships began with a vengeance on the first night of swimming as three meet records fell in Orlando.
Emily Kelly, 15, of Long Island Aquatics knocked 15 seconds from the women's 1650 freestyle meet record with a time of 16:07.43. That time smashed the 16:21.57 set by Stephanie Cota of the Sierra Marlins in 2002.
Katelyn Martin, 17, of Magnus Aquatics finished second in 16:18.04, while Rachel Naurath, 15, of Nova of Virginia finished third in 16:24.88.

On the men's side, Brent Hitchcock of the Dayton Raiders whacked five seconds from the meet record in the 1000 free when he hit the wall in 9:00.42. That performance destroyed the 9:05.10 set by Scott Spansail of Irvine NOVA in 2005.
Matt Barber, 16, of Blue Tide touched second in 9:04.57, while Eegan Groome, 15, of First Colony placed third in 9:07.12.
Rockville-Montgomery set the third meet record as the quartet of Brady Fox, Eric Friedland, Mark Meyer and Sean Stewart edged North Bay's foursome of Jed DeMoss, Jon Denton-Schneider, Jack Ostler and Chris Packer, 1:32.51 to 1:32.64, in the 200 medley relay. Rockville-Montgomery had set the previous standard with a 1:33.09 from 2005.
The lone event without a record came from Curl-Burke in the women's 200 medley relay. Suzanne Schwee, Ellyn Baumgardner, Hailey Hewitt and Molly Emery won in 1:44.06.

March 20, 2008 Why is there practically no coverage of Missy Frankly, 12 year old, at Junior Nationals? She is clearly the most outstanding swimmer of the meet given her age. This is weird that she is not given more coverage. Submitted by: Predicta57
March 20, 2008 Might want to check the days in which she broke records. This was the first day. Submitted by: Jason Marsteller
March 21, 2008 Correct me if I am wrong, but Missy appears to be as fast or faster than greats like Amanda Weier and Sippy Woodhead. How many 12 year olds have ever pulled this off? Submitted by: Predicta57
March 21, 2008 She's definitely doing some amazing things. We've reported on her a few times already. If you check the article from the second day, we have her breaking a longstanding record. We also reported on another of her records from earlier in the year and had her coach on The Morning Swim Show that weekend. Submitted by: Jason Marsteller
