NCAA Division II Championships: Truman State Women, Drury Men Lead After First Day; Two Women’s Records Fall

COLUMBIA, Missouri, March 12. THE first night of action at the NCAA Division II Championships concluded with the Truman State women and Drury men in the lead. Meanwhile, the women took aim at the DII record books as a pair of standards fell.

Team Scores
After having a six-year streak broken by Drury last year, Truman State took an early lead with 103 points in the women's meet. North Dakota sat in second with 84 points, while Wayne State sat third with 76 points. Drury (70) and Clarion (64) completed the top five.

Meanwhile, Drury got a good head start on its fourth consecutive men's title with a tally of 105 points. Ouachita Baptist stood second with 68 points, while North Dakota owned third with 66 points. West Chester (60) and Limestone (49) comprised the rest of the top five.

Women's Meet

Heading into the diving break, Clarion's Teagan Riggs out-dueled South Dakota's Jill Smolczyk, 455.00 to 451.20, to snatch the three-meter title.

Drury's foursome of Janelle Slattery, Kristie Rose, Li Tao and Kelsey Ward posted a convincing victory in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:42.38 as they knocked more than a second from the DII standard of 1:43.73 first set by Truman State in 2003 and tied by Drury in 2007.
