Canada vs. Mexico Men’s Water Polo

ORADEA, Romania, March 7. CANADA places third in their division after a 18-6 win against Mexico today at the Fina Men's Water Polo Olympic Qualifier. Dragan Jovanovic's Canadian squad is one victory close to qualifying for the Beijing Games this summer.

In today's game, Canada was slow to pick up the pace early in first, said Nathaniel Miller. "We started the first period with tomorrow game in mind." Canada was neck and neck with Mexico with a 2-2 score after the first buzzer.

Head Coach, Dragon Jovanovic quickly refocused his troops during the break. "We started playing our way in the second period. We had to start focusing on beating Mexico before thinking of moving forward to the qualifier," added Miller.

Canada quickly passed 3 goals against Mexico in the first four minutes of the second period. Jean Sayegh of Quebec and Sasa Palamarevic of Ottawa added two other for Canada. Fausto Vazquez added one for Mexico before the end of the half.

From then on it was all Canada with a shutout 6-0 in the third. Canada opened the final quarter for an eight straight goal and stepped off the accelerator allowing Mexico to score three times before taking the victory 18-6.
