USA Swimming Sectionals, Mission Viejo: Nadadores Host First Days of Swimming -- March 6, 2008

MISSION VIEJO, California, March 6. ANOTHER USA Swimming Sectional commenced in Mission Viejo, Calif., as the Nadadores opened its doors to swimmers mostly from the Southwest.

Alyssa Anderson 17, of the Sierra Marlins dominated the women's 200 fly with a time of 2:13.45, almost four seconds ahead of Rheanna Vaughn, 15, of the Aquazots who took second in 2:17.23. In the men's 200 fly, Evan Virtue, 16, of California Capital touched out Justin Difederico, 16, of College Area, 2:04.62 to 2:04.64, for the title.

In the 200 breaststroke events, Melissa Bates, 15, of SoCal Aquatics surfaced from a women's battle in 2:35.12. Kasey Carlson, 16, of Terrapins and Kirstyn Colonias, 17, of Crow Canyon stopped the clock just behind with times of 2:35.27 and 2:35.50, respectively. Brandon Fischer of Pleasanton had an easier time of it with a 2:20.04 to capture the men's 200 breast.

Karen Wang, 15, of Pleasanton garnered the women's 200 backstroke crown with a time of 2:18.51, while Jon Howard of Mission Viejo snagged the men's 200 back title in 2:07.21.

The 100 free closed the night as Andi Murez, 16, of Santa Monica (57.80) and Olympian Jason Lezak of Rose Bowl Aquatics (49.56) recorded victories.

Last night, Chloe Sutton, 16, of Mission Viejo clipped her lifetime best in the women's 800 free with a time of 8:39.76. That cleared her previous best of 8:40.04 set at the 2007 Junior National Championships. Meanwhile, teammate Chad La Tourette walked away with the men's 800 free title in 8:10.87.
