USA Swimming Sectionals, College Station: More Meet Records Tumble in Final Night

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, March 2. THE final night of long course swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in College Station, Texas, came to a close as several meet records fell throughout the evening.

Ellen Lobb came just short of the meet record, but won the women's 100 back when she clocked a 1:03.81. That performance nearly cleared the 1:03.63 set by Andrea Axtell in 2004.

Matt Thompson of the Dallas Mustangs joined a trio of swimmers under the meet record of 57.94 set by Dan Rohleder in 2004 as Thompson captured the title in 56.66. Max Murphy finished second in 57.08, while Cole Cragin took third in 57.56.

In a rare loss, Spindrift Beck was touched out in the women's 100 breast by Micah Lawrence, 1:11.81 to 1:11.97, while Nick Ferrif hit the wall in 1:04.12 to win the men's 100 breast.

Allison Arnold almost posted a meet record in the women's 800 free when she clocked a time of 8:59.51, but Codie Hansen's 8:59.25 from 2004 was too high of a bar to reach. Tenori Enriquez, meanwhile, broke the meet record in the men's 1500 free with a time of 15:51.25, as he knocked eight seconds from the 15:59.31 set by Anthony Fleming in 2004.

In the sprint freestyle events, Leslie Dlugopolski touched out Lobb, 27.14 to 27.17, for the women's 50 free title with Maddie Locus taking third in 27.20. For the men, Neil Caskey touched out Steven Nelms, 23.83 to 23.90, to grab the men's 50 free.

Beck rebounded in the women's 200 IM when she clocked a meet-record time of 2:19.47 that erased the 2:20.99 set by Whitney Hall in 2004. Thompson followed with his second win of the night when he hit the wall in 2:05.55 in the men's 200 IM.
