ORONO, Maine, March 4. JENNIFER Roberts, a Sanford sophomore, turned in two record-breaking performances at the Maine Women's Class A High School Championships.

Roberts fell .03 seconds short of the state standard in the 200 IM, but she did better the meet record with a first-place time of 2:07.67. Taylor McFarlane, a former Cape Elizabeth standout and a current swimmer at the University of North Carolina, set the former meet record of 2:09.45 in 2003. Roberts thrashed her way to a 58.35 performance in the 100 backstroke, breaking two records with the gold-medal swim. She erased the former meet record of 59.22 set by McFarlane in 2002 and the former state record of 58.78 set by Nicole Harmon of Scarborough last year.

Emily Buczkowski of Morse completed a successful freshman campaign by placing first in two individual events. Buczkowski edged out the 50 freestyle field with a time of 25.18 and slighted the competition in the 100 freestyle as well (55.30).
