MARQUETTE, Michigan, March 3. THE Michigan Upper Peninsula State Championship host, Marquette, easily took the men's and women's titles.

The Marquette women tallied a meet-high 385 points. Houghton finished up in second with 264 points while Sault rounded out the top three with 194 points.
Marquette's men's team outswam the field, amassing 369 points. Kingsford settled for second place with 321 points while Sault trailed well behind with 168.5 points for a third-place finish.
Women's Individual Results
Marquette brought home the gold medal in two relay events. The 200 medley relay team of Heather Nobert, Hanna Cowley, Jennifer Gallagher and Olivia Montgomery slaughtered the field in the meet's opening event, winning in 1:57.28. Marquette's 400 freestyle relay (Rhonda Rossway, Gallagher, Nobert and Cowley) blasted its way to a 3:53.11 win in the final event of the meet as well.
Cowley lit up the field in both of her individual event wins. The freshman debuted in her first-ever Michigan Upper Peninsula Championship meet by setting two records with her swims in the 50 (24.60) and 100 (52.40) freestyle events. Her 50 freestyle swim undid Kiersten Thompson of Marquette's 2005 record of 25.36 while her 100 freestyle performance shattered Jenny Laughna from Marquette's 1995 record of 55.30.
Rossway nabbed titles in each of her individual events as well. Rossway touched the wall first in both the 200 freestyle (2:07.07) and the 500 freestyle (5:37.60).
Men's Individual Results
Kingsford bested the field in both freestyle relay events. The Kingsford 200 freestyle relay contingent of Derek Barnes, Andrew Lindstrom, Steve Mulka and Taylor Sturm collaborated for a 1:37.23 effort while the 400 freestyle relay quartet of Barnes, Lindstrom, Alec Thurston and Mulka clocked a 3:37.43.
Lindstrom put together two individual event wins. He started out by taking the 200 IM title in 2:13.61 before snaring the 100 breaststroke title at the end of the meet (1:06.64).
Diving Results
Heather Cowan of Marquette emerged victorious in the women's diving competition with a 135.80 score. Freya Moran of Marquette placed second (131.80) while Lindsey Noble, also hailing from Marquette, came in third (130.20).
Marquette's Alex Dupras placed first on the men's side with a score of 193.25. Chris Wattsson from Marquette took the second-place honor (183.15) while Zack Carlson of Westwood finished in third with a score of 152.05.
