Utah 5A High School State Championships -- February 22, 2008

PROVO, Utah, February 22. TWO new entries were added to the state record book at the Utah 5A High School State Championships.

Josh Tanner from Skyline earned a share of the 5A 200 freestyle record, winning in 1:42.49. Brooks Felton of Skyline swam the same exact time at the 2004 meet. Tanner added a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle as well (47.19). He received the men's Swimmer of the Meet award at the meet's conclusion.

West Jordan eclipsed a state mark in the men's 200 freestyle relay, hammering out a 1:25.95 finish. The quartet of Jordan Fletcher, Josh Loomis, Jake Chipman and Jordan Spoerri edged the former state mark of 1:25.97 set by Skyline in 1999.

Team Scores
Skyline picked up the state title in the women's meet with a final point total of 409.5. Brighton scored 312 points and took second while the Knights of Lone Park placed third with 246 points.

West Jordan emerged victorious in a tight race for the men's title, putting up 308 points. Brighton slid into the second-place slot with 285 points while Skyline, the 2007 champion, settled for third (250).

Women's Individual Results
Candace Smith of American Forks, a Swimming World three-star recruit that picked up the female Swimmer of the Meet laurels, closed out her senior campaign in grand style winning the 100 freestyle (52.97) and the 100 backstroke (56.67). Smith will star for Brigham Young University in the fall.

No other female swimmer won two individual events.

Men's Individual Results
West Jordan, in addition to its 200 freestyle victory, also fielded a first-place 400 freestyle relay squad consisting of Spoerri, Loomis, Judd Player and Fletcher (3:15.37).
