Good Luck Beijing FINA Diving World Cup: Day One

BEIJING, China, February 19. AFTER the swimmers had a chance to feel out the surroundings of the National Aquatics Center (Water Cube) in Beijing, China, the divers took to the pool for their test event.

In the first final of the meet, China's duo of Wang Feng and Qin Kai collected the men's three-meter synchro title with a tally of 462.12. After opening with a 57.60 diver, the duo never trailed. Its highest point total came with a 92.40 in the final round from a reverse 2 1/2 somersault 1 1/2 twists-pike.

The Russian tandem of Yuriy Kunakov and Dmitry Sautin placed second with a 418.65 points. The pair started in second, dropped to 10th after the second dive, then made its way back to silver after six dives.

Canada's Alexandre Despatie and Arturo Miranda closed out the podium with a bronze-winning 416.94.

Notably, the U.S. team of Jevon Tarantino and Chris Colwill finished sixth with 404.64 points.

In women's platform preliminary competition, the Chinese picked up the top two spots. Chen Ruo Lin finished first with 410.10 points, while Wang Xin took second with 382.35 points. Australia's Loudy Wiggins finished third with 374.95 points.

Chen posted a 90+ dive in the second round with a 91.20 from an inward 3 1/2 somersault-tuck as the top dive of the session.

U.S. competitors included Laura Wilkinson with a sixth-place 343.60, while Haley Ishimatsu placed 13th with 321.05 points.
