Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships: Day Three

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, February 15. THREE Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference records were established by UIndy athletes on day three at the league's swimming and diving championships, held at Ruth Lilly Fitness Center Pool. Two individuals records were smashed and a relay etched a new standard in a day that featured four new league marks overall.

Valerie Crosby broke her own GLIAC record in the 100 butterfly, besting her freshman effort of 56.55, by clocking a 56.27 winning time Friday. Erica Smith also garnered an NCAA B-cut in the event, finishing third wih a 58.24 time. The women's 800 freestyle relay (Ellie Miller, Smith, Abby Adrian and Isabela Tafur) was victorious, grabbing a win in 7:48.10.

Alex Arestis shaved a second-and-a-half off the 200 freestyle mark, breaking a record that stood for 21 years. Arestis finished in 1:39.24, part of eight swimmers that earned NCAA cuts in the heat. Chad Damitz was fourth in the 100 backstroke, etching an NCAA B-cut with a 52.48 time. The final event featured the record-setting 800 freestyle relay of Arestis, Kieran O'Neill, Hanno Ahonen and Keegan Hoey who set a GLIAC mark with their winning 6:47.60 time.
