Mary Beck Ups Ante, Takes Down Short-Lived National High School Record in 200 IM

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, February 9. FOR the second year in a row, Swimming World National Swimmer of the Year Mary Beck of Westlake High in Texas and Michelle McKeehan of Center Grove in Indiana traded the national high school record in the 200 IM.

After trading the record back-and-forth in successive weekends last year, Beck just overtook McKeehan's short-lived standard of 1:56.87 set at the Indiana High School State Championships in Indianapolis.

This year, Beck clocked a swift 1:56.45 at the UIL Regional IIV Championship Finals at the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas, today to recapture the standard.

Beck posted splits of 25.81, 28.63, 34.00 and 28.01 en route to the record, compared to McKeehan's splits of 25.59, 30.39, 32.56 and 28.33.

Wonder how fast she can go at States.
