Richmond v. James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Virginia, February 2. SENIOR Jamie Coyle set a pair of personal diving records in her final home meet and sophomore P.J. Naber factored into four event wins as James Madison defeated Richmond 163-124 in a women's swimming and diving meet in Savage Natatorium.

JMU improved to 8-4 to close the regular season of dual meets. Richmond ended its season at 4-6.

Coyle, one of three seniors honored before the meet in her final regular-season competition, set personal records and JMU season bests in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events. She had a 268.20 in the one-meter board, shattering her previous best of 235.00. On the three-meter, Coyle had a 253.00, besting her previous mark of 244.20.

The Dukes' 200-yard medlely relay squad of freshman Morgan McCarthy, freshman Lisa Colapietro , freshman Layne Eidemiller, and Naber set a best time by winning the event in 1:48.52.

Naber then swam the lead-off leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay. She combined with junior Meghan Heil, Eidemiller, and sophomore Amanda Hauck to finish in 1:38.04.

Individually, Naber took first in the 50 freestyle in 24.35 seconds and the 100 free in 53.32 seconds.

Colapietro returned to action for the first time since November to sweep the breaststroke races. She took first in the 100 in 1:06.48 and set a JMU top time with a 2:23.32 in the 200.

JMU's other win in the meet came from sophomore Rachel Smith with a time of 1:57.79 in the 200-yard freestyle.

In addition to Coyle, fellow seniors Grace deMarrais and Gailey Walters were honored prior to the meet.
