Swimming World Names College Swimmers of the Week

PHOENIX, Arizona, January 31. SENIOR Kaan Tayla of Virginia Tech and freshman Kendra Stern of Amherst have been named Swimming World's College Swimmers of the Week.

The award is an extension of the National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week (NCSW) honors given out by CollegeSwimming.com across three divisions of NCAA competition.

Tayla joined Tennessee's Christine Magnuson as the NCSW Division I winners, while Eunate Garro of Drury and Ben Kuntz of West Chester earned DII honors. Stern, along with Alex Sweet of Washington and Lee, were the DIII award winners.

Tayla helped Virginia Tech knock off Pittsburgh, 177-117, on Tech's Senior Night. Tayla helped the 200 medley relay to a victory in 1:30.96, while also topping the 50 free in a pool-record 19.87. He also helped the 400 free relay with a leadoff time of 43.86 that broke his school and pool record.

Stern led Amherst to a 142.9-97.5 triumph over Union. She posted times of 1:53.83 in the 200 free and 5:03.77 in the 500 free to lodge the quickest times in the NESCAC conference this season. She already owns the best times in the 50 (23.84) and 100 (52.60).
