U.S. Olympic Trials Tickets Selling Like Hotcakes -- January 25, 2008

"We are truly impressed with the efforts of the organizing committee and the enthusiasm of the fans surrounding this historic event." - Chuck Wielgus
OMAHA, Nebraska, January 25. THE 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials will be the best-attended in history, according to officials from USA Swimming and the Omaha Sports Commission. At a press conference at the Qwest Center on Friday, officials announced that ticket sales have surpassed 106,000, bettering the mark set at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Long Beach, Calif. With more than five months left before the event, officials hope to sell out the finals sessions each night.

"The response in Omaha has been fantastic," said Chuck Wielgus, USA Swimming's executive director. "We are truly impressed with the efforts of the organizing committee and the enthusiasm of the fans surrounding this historic event. There will undoubtedly be some record-breaking swims in Omaha this summer, and we encourage everyone to come out and witness what we believe to be one of the most talented groups of swimmers ever assembled."

While ticket sales have already reached record numbers, Harley Schrager chairman of the Omaha Sports Commission Board, was careful to remind fans that there are still great seats available.

"We know that people in Omaha are accustomed to the Qwest Center selling out quickly, but we're not talking about a one- or two-day event here. We're selling tickets to an event that lasts eight days, with an Olympian chosen each and every night," said Schrager. "In addition, since the pool rises 10 rows from the arena floor, even upper bowl seats get you close to the action and offer a fantastic view."
