Idaho, UC-Davis vs. Washington

FEDERAL WAY, Washington, January 12. THE Washington swimming teams picked up a pair of dual meet victories on Saturday evening, as the UW women downed Idaho, 139-115, and the Husky men defeated UC Davis, 142-115, at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.

Petra Radovic set a new personal record by more than 14 seconds in winning the 1000 freestyle for the UW women in a time of 10:18.14 and later was victorious in the 500 free with a time of 5:02.79. Teammates Kim Jasmer and Genevieve Patterson also had two wins apiece.

"Petra has been working real hard and has really stepped it up in workouts and it showed today," said Huskies head coach Whitney Hite. "Jasmer had great times in the 100 free and 200 IM, and Jen Gong was also very strong for the women today."

Jasmer placed first in the 100 free in a time of 51.18 and in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:06.74, while Patterson won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.45 and the 200 breast in a time of 2:20.32.

Gong took first in the 200 free in a time of 1:53.20, edging teammate Ally Rich, who took second with a time of 1:53.56. Gong also had a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:08.12).

Lindsey Sharp in the 50 free (24.26), Mary Patterson in the 100 back (58.99), Emilee Jennings in the 100 butterfly (57.64) and Erin Campbell in the 200 fly (2:04.97) also had first-place finishes for the Huskies. Jessica Buchanan added a second-place finish in the 100 breast (1:06.25).

For the Washington men, Scott Spansail had a pair of victories in the 200 free (1:43.16) and 500 free (4:35.19), as did Evan Bernier, who won the 50 free (20.84) and 100 free (45.95).

Taylor Brugh, Yonatan Cohen, Erez Fern and Henry Hudson also picked up wins for Washington. Brugh was victorious in the 100 back (52.02), Cohen took first in the 100 breast (58.05), Fern won the 200 fly (1:49.94) and Hudson won the 200 back (1:52.98).

Hudson also added a second-place finish in the 200 free (1:43.25) and Cohen took second in the 200 breast (2:09.56).

Also for the UW men, Brenton Dowdy took second in the 50 free (21.75), Anthony Falaniko was second in the 100 free (47.27), Jereme Barnett-Woods took second in the 500 free (4:38.28) and Bret Lundgaard finished second in the 100 fly (50.85).

"Overall, I really like the place that the men and women are in," said Hite. "We've got some really good competition coming up and I'm pleased with where we are going. We swam well today."
