Italian Record Falls at Winter Championships

RICCIONE, Italy, December 18. DURING the final day of swimming at the Italian Winter Championships held in Riccione, Rachele Bruni set the Italian long course record in the women's 1500 freestyle.

Bruni covered the event in 16:28.31 with splits of 4:21.11 at the 400, 8:45.44 at the 800 and 13:09.98 at the 1200 to surpass the previous record of 16:29.75 set by Elisa Pasini on Aug. 4, 2005 in Pesaro.

Bruni told her national federation that she did not expect to swim the time, and would have been happy to finish under 16:35. She also said that the national record would give her the motivation and confidence to push for personal bests in the 400 and 800 freestyle as well.
