MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, December 5. LAUREN Weis of Cretin-Derham Hall set two state records at the Minnesota Women's Class AA State Championships.

Weis touched first in the final heat of the 200 freestyle (1:49.55), but her preliminary swim will be the one etched in the record book. She broke the former state record of 1:49.39 set by Megan Braun of Edina in 2005 with her preliminary swim of 1:49.20. Weis went on to break her second record in the final heat of the 500 freestyle, eclipsing a standard she set in prelims (4:52.85). Before the meet, the state record stood at 4:56.20. Kirsten Wengler of Hopkins Lindbergh set the former record back in 1981.

Laura Ryan of Elk River nabbed the top spot on the podium in the diving competition with her score of 452.65. Maggie Keefer of Stillwater placed second (443.55) while Val Bald from Woodbury took up the third-place spot with a 452.65 score.

Maple Grove emerged as the state champion with 211 total points. A battle ensued for second place, as Burnsville eked out Cretin-Derham Hall by a score of 178-176.5.
