Elizabeth Wycliffe Knocks Down Canadian Record at Bell Grand Prix -- November 23, 2007

TORONTO, Ontario, Canada, November 23. ELIZABETH Wycliffe started the Bell Grand Prix in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with a bang as she shot down the 200 backstroke Canadian record over short course meters in prelims. Wycliffe clocked 2:07.05 to beat the previous standard of 2:07.73 set in 2001 by Jennifer Fratesi.

Wycliffe returned during the long course meter finals with a win in the 200 back in 2:13.50, two seconds off Fratesi's standard of 2:11.16.

Annamay Pierse, the Canadian record holder in the 100 breast, eased by for a win in the event with a time of 1:09.03, well off her standard of 1:07.78, while fellow Canadian record holder Erica Morningstar ripped off a 55.59 to win the 100 free.

Tanya Hunks secured victory in the 400 IM with a time of 4:47.71, while MacKenzie Downing closed out the women's performances with a near-Canadian record time of 27.33 in the 50 fly – just off the 27.17 set by Shona Kitson.

In men's action, Keith Beavers shined with a pair of wins as he first topped the 200 back with a time of 2:01.09. He then captured the 400 IM with a time of 4:21.37.

Next, Mike Brown touched out Mathieu Bois in the 100 breast, 1:02.63 to 1:02.65, while Brent Hayden then clocked the only sub-50 of the evening in the 100 free with a winning effort of 49.32.

Thomas Kindler, the Canadian record holder in the 50 fly with a 23.81, held off Joe Bartoch for gold, 24.54 to 24.58, in the sprint fly event.
