Dave Denniston to Make Paralympic Competition Debut at 2007 U.S. Paralympics Open Swimming Championships -- November 21, 2007

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, November 21. U.S. Paralympics and the University of Maryland will host the 2007 U.S. Paralympics Open Swimming Championships, Dec. 6-8 at the Eppley Recreation Center in College Park, Md. At the meet, Dave Denniston will make his Paralympic debut!

Dave Denniston, now living in Longmont, Colo., was an NCAA champion in the breaststroke who narrowly missed out on an opportunity to go to the Olympic Games in 2004, was injured in a sledding accident in Feb. 2005, resulting in paralysis. Now he's reunited with his old college coach from Auburn, Jimi Flowers, and looking to make the Paralympic Team. He says his main reason for wanting to make the team isn't for his own personal glory, but to bring attention to Paralympic sport in the U.S. and the dedicated athletes who are part of it.

Approximately 250 physically disabled athletes from 14 countries will compete at the event, including all members of the U.S. Paralympics Swimming Elite and National Teams. Among the other nations that will be in attendance are Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Japan and Spain.
