Wisconsin Women’s Division 1 State High School Championships

MADISON, Wisconsin, November 22. MADISON East survived a scare from Madison Memorial and came away with the team title at the 2007 Wisconsin Women's Division 1 High School State Championships.

Madison East stopped a five-year run of state championships for Arrowhead, as the Purgolder women won with a final score of 233 points. Madison Memorial followed closely behind with 229.5 points while Middleton rounded out the top three with 203.5 points. Arrowhead finished back at fifth place with 176 points.

Madison East captured two out of the three relay events. Ruby Martin, Hannah Taschwer, Becca Soderholm and Ivy Martin teamed up in the medley relay, clocking a first-place time of 1:47.78. The Madison East 200 freestyle relay consisting of Ruby Martin, Ivy Martin, Kirsten Lickel and Aja Van Hout edged out Madison Memorial by a narrow margin, winning the event in a 1:35.84 time.

Emily Russart of Badger/Big Foot/Williams Bay set the lone state record of the meet with her 1:02.73 performance in the 100 breaststroke. Her swim erased Maggie Zblewski of Arrowhead's 2005 standard of 1:03.46. Russart also placed sixth in the 200 IM (2:09.57).

Stephanie Armstrong of Waukesha West turned in two fast individual event winning times with a 1:50.23 showing in the 200 freestyle and a 50.71 100 freestyle swim.

Van Hout made her WIAA state meet debut with two individual event wins for the Purgolders. She clocked a first-place time of 2:06.61 in the 200 IM before breaking the five-minute barrier in the 500 freestyle, stopping the clock at 4:58.68.

Madison West's Kylie Rosenstock took the diving title with a 440.00 score. Amy Feivor from Appleton North recorded a 369.50 score and took the second-place spot while Middleton's Lauren Callin placed third (367.85).
