Some Charges Dropped Against Lehigh Swimmers

BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania, November 20. Just more than two months ago, The Morning Call reported that 19 members of the Lehigh Swimming and Diving Team were charged with alcohol-related offenses. That number was later reduced to 14 members based on additional sources. Today, The Morning Call reported the aftermath of those incidents.

Mac Tichner, 19, and Darren Podolak, 20, "waived their right to a preliminary hearing on charges of underage drinking and conspiracy to sell or furnish alcohol to minors."

According to the report written by Pamela Lehman, "Because the men accepted responsibility for their actions, prosecutors agreed to drop charges of corruption of minors, reckless endangerment and violating several city ordinances, said Northampton County Assistant District Attorney Abraham Kassis"

"This is a good, fair resolution to this case," attorney James Burke, who represented Podolak, told The Morning Call. "He's a good guy and this will help further the prospect to keep his record clean."

The other swim team members were cited for underage drinking, and some of them have plead guilt while others have applied for diversion, which allows offenders to keep their records clean.
