Maryland At Final Day Of Terrapin Invite

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, November 17. THE Maryland men's swimming and diving program completed their third day at the Terrapin Cup Invitational. The Terps finished third with a final score of 697.

UConn (955) and West Chester (800) placed ahead of the Terps. Behind Maryland was William & Mary (533), Drexel (397), Villanova (227) and Mary Washington (195).

"We swam very fast tonight," said Interim Head Coach Jarod Schroeder. "Eric (Cullen) swam one of his best times tonight, while Chris (Rouchard) swam his best time in the mile. It was very exciting to come back at night and swim with that intensity."

The Terrapins began the day in the 1650-yard freestyle. Sophomore Chris Rouchard (16:00.24), sophomore Brian Honore (16:05.56) and senior captain Ken Golaszewski (16:19.45) finished 9th, 10th and 11th, respectively, for the Terps, grabbing 22 points to advance Maryland's total to a combined 535 in the third slot.

In the 200-yard backstroke, Chris Sanford finished 5th for the Terps with a time of 1:53.79 in the A-finals. Sophomore Aleksandar Damjanic won the B-finals with a time of 1:51.71, taking 9th overall. Sanford and Damjanic's combined 23 points added to give Maryland 558 in third place.

Sophomore Dong Kim won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.04, earning 40 points for the Terps. Freshman Nick Cordes won the B-finals in the 100-yard freestyle, placing 9th overall with a time of 45.61, grabbing another nine.

In the 200-yard breaststroke, Juniors Andy Dilz and Eric Cullen took 3rd and 4th place, respectively. Dilz swam with a time of 2:03.70 while Cullen swam a 2:03.75. Freshman Haywood Miller placed 9th with a time of 2:08.29.

Senior captain Eric Thomasson (1:52.22), freshman Roger Dent (1:54.16) and Golszewski (1:54.89) placed 9th, 10th and 11th in the 200-yard butterfly.

In the last event of the night, Maryland was just shy of a first place finish behind West Chester University (3:02.82). Kim, Dilz, and freshmen Eric Moore and Nick Cordes finished with a time of 3:02.98.

The Terps next meet will be January 6, 2008 when the team travels to Fort Pierce, Fla. to face Indian River Community College.
