Meet of the Week Preview: St. Cloud State at North Dakota

PHOENIX, Arizona, November 13. IN the other SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Meet of the Week this week, St. Cloud State travels to the University of North Dakota for a cold-climate affair.

Here is a quick preview of the match-up:

St. Cloud State's Last Time Out:
The St. Cloud State swimming and diving teams swept the St. John's/St. Ben's Fall Invitational on Nov. 10.

The Huskies won 24 of 32 total events in the meet as the women won 14 and the men took the top spot in 10 events. In all 14 different athletes won events, a total that increases to 20 if you include the members of winning relay teams.

Alisha Blaydes (Elk River), Caitlin Digney (Madison, Wis.), Logan Carpenter (Superior, Wis.), Isaiah Fuller (Faribault), Jacob Goergen (Mandan, N.D.) and Nate Jimerson (Apple Valley) were the stars of the day as they each collected two wins on the day.

North Dakota's Last Time Out:
The Fighting Sioux men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at the University of Illinois-Chicago meet held Nov. 10. Overall, North Dakota won three men's events and two women's titles.

Daniel Moraes led the Fighting Sioux men with a win in the 100 back, while Anthony Buhr took home the 100 breast title. Meanwhile, the men's 200 medley relay that included Moraes and Buhr as well as Eric Knight and Per Westergren won.

For the women, Cathryn DeShaw swept the backstroke events with a first-place finish in both the 100 and 200 distances.

This weekend's match against St. Cloud State is important for many reasons. This is our last dual meet as a Division II school and is also our last meet before Thanksgiving. We look forward to the competition with our goal being to swim hard and fast..
