Meet of the Week Recap: Whitworth at Seattle Ends With Split

SEATTLE, Washington, November 10. IN an inter-divisional match-up featuring Division II Seattle and Division III Whitworth, the teams split the men's and women's meets in the SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Meet of the Week. The Whitworth women scored a 134-128 conquest of Seattle, while the Seattle men whitewashed Whitworth, 170-92.

In the women's meet, Whitworth captured eight titles, while Seattle snagged six. Meanwhile, Seattle's men clinched 13 titles against Whitworth's one.

Natalie Turner and Samantha Kephart led the charge for Whitworth with four titles each. Turner won the 200 free with a B-cut time of 1:55.46, the 500 free (5:13.58) and the 1000 free (10:45.28) individually. Meanwhile, Kephart grabbed the 200 fly title with a B-cut time of 2:07.01, while also winning the 200 fly (2:07.01) and 100 free (54.44). Both also helped Whitworth win the 200 medley relay as the team of Brittany Gresset (28.58), Brenda Foster (32.00), Kephart (25.73) and Turner (24.82) won in1:51.13. Gresset also took home the 50 free in 24.80.

Carole Triem and Alex Weiss paced Seattle with a pair of titles. Weiss captured the 200 back (2:11.55) and 200 IM (2:16.36) while also clocking a second-place B-cut time of 2:11.21 in the 200 fly. Triem, on the other hand, swept the breaststroke events with winning times in the 100 (1:10.67) and 200 (2:32.94).

Other wins for Seattle's women came from Francesca Reale in the 100 back (1:00.51) as well as the 200 freestyle relay team of Elizabeth Hanohano-hong (25.86), Reale (25.53), Christina Hunsberger (25.31) and Kelsey Henan (25.13) stopping the clock first in 1:41.83.

While Whitworth's David Dolphay scored the lone title for his team in the 1000 free (9:59.46), Seattle's men took home the rest of the crowns.

Doug Djang and Gordon Smith each tallied four titles for Seattle. Djang won the 100 breast in a B-cut time of 58.75, while also winning the 200 breast (2:09.84) and being part of both relay wins. The 200 medley relay squad of Bryson Chiu (25.25), Djang (26.46), Chris Coley (22.66) and Bryant Bevers (21.74) won in 1:36.11, while the 200 freestyle relay contingent of Djang (21.87), Smith (22.14), Coley (22.10) and Bevers (21.86) touched first in 1:27.97. Along with the 200 free relay win, Smith clocked a B-cut time of 1:43.43 to win the 200 free as well as surfaced triumphant from the 100 free (48.18) and 500 free (4:42.86).

On top of participating in both relay wins, Coley captured the 100 fly with a B-cut time of 50.94, while Chiu added the 100 back (54.90) and 200 IM (1:57.39) to his relay victory.

Other winners included Kevin Daniels (200 fly – 1:59.37), Bevers (50 free – 22.24) and Michael Wheeler (200 back – 2:01.55).
