Florida 1A State High School Championships

By Brian Savard

ORLANDO, Florida, November 10. SEVENTH-grader Chelsea Britt debuted in her first high school championship meet at the Florida 1A High School State Championships by capturing the 100 butterfly title.

Britt hit the 50 mark at 25.94 and finished strong, stopping the clock at 55.22. In the past 10 years of Florida high school swimming, there has not been a freshman that has won the 100 butterfly, let alone a seventh-grader. Britt also placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.43).

Team Results
Bolles continued its dominance on the Florida swimming scene, walking away with both the women's and men's titles.

The Bolles women topped the deep field of teams, scoring 426.5 points throughout the meet. Pine Crest corralled the second-place honor (319) while the local preparatory school, Lake Highland Prep, came in third (196).

No one could match the Bolles men as they dominated a talented pool of swimmers with a first-place score of 338. Pine Crest placed second with 151 points while Cardinal Gibbons fought off several teams for third with 126 points.

Women's Individual Results
Bolles took two of the three relays, but Pine Crest had a record-setting performance with its 200 freestyle relay team.

Bolles' contingent of Aubrey Peacock, Danielle Beaubrun, Pink Kinanti and Ashley Butler fired away in the 200 medley relay, beating the competition by a whopping three seconds (1:47.28). Bolles fell just short of the 400 freestyle relay record with its foursome of Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace, Emilie Hilstead, Peacock and Victoria Richmond, however, it did outlast rival Pine Crest with a 3:24.62 time.

The Pine Crest 200 freestyle relay (Stephanie Eisenring, Meghan Quinn, Lara Moseley and Brooke Atkinson) threw together four 23s en route to posting a state standard. Pine Crest's 1:34.37 time erased the former standard of 1:34.53 set by Bolles in 2006.

Eisenring reeled in 40 points individually for Pine Crest, winning her events in blazing-fast All-American standard times. She touched out Bishop Verot's Stephanie Peacock in a 200 freestyle thriller, hitting the touchpad at 1:47.81. Eisenring helped guide a one-two finish for Pine Crest in the 100 freestyle, clocking a time of 50.61.

Men's Individual Results
Bolles strung together two relays that outswam their respective competitors. The Bolles sprint corps combined as Rodion Davelaar, Maximilian Glober, Tommy Gutman and Braden Whitehurst crushed the rest of the 200 freestyle relay teams, flying to a 1:24.40 finish. Davelaar, James Gaston, Byron Plapp and Whitehurst teamed up at the end of the meet, easily winning the 400 freestyle relay in 3:07.53.

Austin Detra of Sarasota Christian maximized his distance-swimming ability, banging out wins in both the 200 freestyle (1:39.38) and the 500 freestyle (4:29.81).

Jose Crescimbeni rounded out the male double-event winners with victories in both the 100 butterfly (48.70) and the 100 backstroke (50.16).

Diving Results
Patti Kranz of Westminster Academy outdove the diving competition with a state-title score of 409.70. Danielle Risley from Bolles (401.40) battled Lake Highland's sixth-grade diver Sydney Couch (400.65) for the silver medal, and Risley prevailed, as Risley and Couch placed second and third, respectively.

Anthony Lewark of American Heritage led the way for the men, receiving a 452.80 score. Noah Garcia of Pompano Beach placed second (440.85) while Luke Zippi of Viera took third (435.10).
