Miami University vs. Akron

OXFORD, Ohio, November 3. FOLLOWING a 188.5-108.5 win over Buffalo, Miami University's women's swimming and diving team improved to 2-0 in Mid-American Conference meets and 4-1 overall with a 173-119 over Akron at Nixon Aquatic Center. The win extended Miami's MAC dual meet win streak to 48.

Freshman Miranda Kaltenborn, junior Malarie Schmidt and sophomore Karen Frazier earned two wins apiece on the afternoon, while other individual winners for the RedHawks included senior Kristen Bezier, senior Kathryn Stephens and junior Maggie French.

Miami's `A' and `B' teams recorded a 1-2 finish in the 200 medley relay, giving Miami 15 points in the first event. Kaltenborn followed with a season-best time of 10:28.63 in the 1000 free to give Miami nine more points, while senior Kristen Bezier also touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle, with a season-high time of 1:54.04. Schmidt and Frazier continued the streak of first-place finishes as Schmidt finished with a season-best time of 58.40 in the 100 backstroke and Frazier clocked a season-high 1:04.04 in the 100 breastroke.

Stephens and sophomore Allison Way registered another 1-2 finish for Miami in the 200 butterfly. After Akron wins in the 50 freestyle and 3-meter diving, Schmidt led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 freestyle. Season-best times by Kaltenborn in the 200 backstroke and by Frazier in the 200 breaststroke gave the RedHawks two more wins. French set a career-high time (5:07.63) in the 500 freestyle, cementing a victory for the RedHawks.
