Marshall Women Defeat Youngstown State (170-73); Falls to Wisconsin- Green Bay (132-111)

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, October 26. THE Marshall swimming and diving team split its Friday dual meet at Youngstown State, beating the Penguins 170-73 but falling to Wisconsin Green-Bay 132-111. The results move the Herd's season record to 2-3.

Marshall dominated in the stroke events, which have been its strength so far in the 2007-08 season. Lauren Goodwin, Kristin Wheatley and Ally Melinsky went one, two and three respectively in the 400-yard individual medley and Kayla Truswell, Wheatley, Samantha Noland and Goodwin took the top four spots in the 200-yard butterfly.

"It was tight race between us and Wisconsin Green-Bay all night," Marshall head coach Leonard Kraus said. "It was exactly what we thought it would be. We thought we would do well in the IM and breaststroke and the girls really dominated those events. It just wasn't enough."

Senior breaststroker Michaela Sceli tacked on another win to her season total, taking the 200-yard breast. Jenny Johnnson continues to perform well early in her Marshall career. The sophomore won the 1000-yard freestyle and finished second in 500-yard free.

Wisconsin-Green Bay's Shannon Demrow was a pain the Herd's side all night. The freshman won both the 500 and 200-yard freestyle events. Demrow recorded times of 5:08.09 and 1:55.72 respectively in the two distances and in both cases shut out would be winners for Marshall.

Special thanks to Marshall for contributing this report.
