Passages: Commonwealth Games Swimmer Bernard Newman, 72

THORNHILL, Great Britain, October 23. ACCORDING to a report by icWales.co.uk, former Commonwealth Games swimmer and water polo player Bernard Newman passed away at the age of 72 on Oct. 12.

The article states that "Newman was the youngest Welshman to be picked for a British Olympic swimming team in 1956." At the age of 16, he competed for Britain in the Olympics.

After retiring from competitive swimming, Newman went on to work in the automotive industry while also coaching swimming at the Welsh Institute of Sport until he retired in 1995.

SwimmingWorldMagazine.com sends its condolences to the friends and family of Newman.
