St. Cloud Tops Northern Michigan and MSU-Moorhead

ST. CLOUD, Minnesota, October 20. AFTER taking 12-of-13 events in the first day of their triangular with MSU Moorhead and Northern Michigan, the Huskies duplicated the effort, taking 12-of-13 in day two of the meet in SCSU's Halenbeck Hall Aquatic Center.

In addition to their 12 wins, St. Cloud State also brought home six second place efforts to aid in the victory. Kelly Vieau (Delano) recorded a pair of individual wins along with a win in the 200 yard free relay to give her three total on the afternoon. Sarah Burnell (Oshkosh, Wis.) and Kelsey Berkeland (Coon Rapids) also each won two individual events.

Vieau had to work hard for her two wins taking the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 25:21 with teammate Alisha Blaydes (Elk River) right behind in 25:83. In her win in the 100 yard freestyle she finished in 55:45 with a MSUM opponent not far back at 56:05.

Berkeland again swept the diving events with scores of 237.75 and 236.15 on the one and three-meter boards respectively. Berkeland was the first of three Huskies on the one-meter board as SCSU swept the top three spots. Kendra Willis (Neenah, Wis.) and Annie McNallan (Coon Rapids) were second and third respectively.

Head Coach Jeff Hegle's Husky squad had five first year athletes make their collegiate debuts this weekend against NMU and MSUM. Those student-athletes included; Nikki Bakke (Hutchinson), Elizabeth Barbee (Hartland, Wis.), April Greene (Sun Prairie, Wis.), Cassie Mrozek (Inver Grove Heights) and Carissa Reilly (St. Michael).
