COLUMBIA, South Carolina, October 19. TWO meet records fell at the South Carolina 3A State Championship meet as J.L. Mann and Riverside each claimed a state title in both the men's and women's competition, respectively.

J.L. Mann used standout performances by Lee Groseclose en route to capturing the men's state championship, recording 534.5 points throughout the course of the meet. Riverside placed second with 491 points while AC Flora came in a distant third with 329.5 points.

Groseclose set the first record of the meet when he trounced the field in the 200 freestyle, hitting the touchpad at 1:43.99. He lowered his former standard that he set last year (1:44.36). Groseclose touched first in the 100 freestyle with a 47.61 time despite stiffer competition by means of Eastside's Greg Morgan. Morgan touched the wall .2 seconds after Groseclose.

Riverside garnered the first-place honors on the women's side with 503.5 points. J.L. Mann finished second with 401 points while Hilton Head rounded out the top three with 357 points.

The other meet record fell when Christine Hughes of DW Daniel finished the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.07. Brittany Gobat of Fox Creek set the old standard in 2006 with a 1:06.76 time. Gobat was unable to defend her record, placing second in the race to Hughes. Hughes also struck gold in the 100 freestyle with a winning time of 53.67.

Addie Carne of Southside Christian paced the field in both of her individual events, taking home state titles in the 200 IM (2:09.13) as well as the 100 butterfly (58.37).
