Curl-Burke Claims Plenty of Potomac Valley Swimming Outstanding Athlete Awards

DAMASCUS, Maryland, October 18. CURL-Burke Swimming earned plenty of the Outstanding Athlete Awards recently given out by Potomac Valley Swimming. Janet Hu (10&U), Philip Hu (11-12), Kaitlin Pawlowicz (13-14), Matt McLean (17-18), and Ryan Hurley (Senior) each represented Curl-Burke on the list.

Meanwhile, Rockville-Montgomery Swim Club picked up quite a few of their own with Andrew Gibson (10&U), Sarah Haase (11-12), Matthew Gibson (11-12), Matt Thomas (13-14) and Brady Fox (15-16) each earning recognition.

Other winners include the most obvious choice of them all with The Fish's Kate Ziegler winning both the 17-18 and Senior award based on her world record season, while Ashley Danner (15-16) of Sea Devil Swimming and Cabel Perrot (13-14) of High Point Pool also garnered accolades.

Janet Hu, Age 11 – Janet is a 6th grader at Mosby Woods Elementary School, is coached by their very dedicated Head Coach Marilyn Mangels, Curl-Burke Swim Club was awarded the Potomac Valley Swimming "Outstanding Athlete Awards" for the 10 Under Group. Janet achieved (10) Ten Top 16 times in the 50Y/100Y/200Y/500Y Free and 50YBack/100Yback, 50YFly, 100YFly, 100Y IM, and 200Y IM. Also, (6) Top 16 times during the Long course season for the 50M Free, 100 M Free, 50M back, 100 M Back, 50M Fly, and 100M Fly. Janet works very hard, and enjoys swimming.

Philip Hu , Age 13 – Philip is a 7th grader at Luther Jackson Middle school and also Coached by Marilyn Mangels, Curl-Burke Swim Club was awarded the Potomac Valley Swimming "Outstanding Athlete Awards" for the 11-12 Age Group. Philip achieved (5) Top 16 Short Course times (50Y Back, 100 Y Back, 200 Yard Back, and 50 Yard Fly, and 100 Yard IM). Also, (9) Top 16 Long course times which include: 50 M Free, 800M Free, 50 M Back, 100M Back, 200M Back, 50M Fly, 100M Fly, 200M Fly, and 400M IM. Philip, like his talented sister, works very hard, and enjoys swimming very much!

Kaitlin Pawlowicz, Age 14 – Freshman at Heritage High School, and member of Gold Medal Team, Curl-Burke Swim Club, and coached by Senior Head Coach John Flanagan, was awarded the Potomac Valley Swimming "Outstanding Athlete Award" for 13-14 age group. Kaitlin trains at the new Claude Moore Recreation Center in Sterling, and also for DSP in Ashburn which has helped her reach to the next level.

Matt McLean, Age 19 – Freshman at University of Virginia , and former standout at Potomac Falls High School swimming for the Cavaliers and Head Coach Mark Bernardino was awarded the Potomac Valley Swimming "Outstanding Athlete Award" for 17-18 age group. Matt has continued to excel in swimming and during the summer while training with Head Senior Coach John Flanagan with the Curl-Burke Swim Club. Matt achieved Olympic Trial cuts in the 100M Free and 200M Free.

Ryan Hurley, Age 22 – Coached by Tim Kelly at Curl-Burke Swim Club. . Ryan was awarded the Potomac Valley Swimming, "Outstanding Athlete Awards'" for Senior Age Group.
