Small Amounts of Radioactive Waste Found at Site of 2012 Olympic Park

LONDON, England, October 18. ACCORDING to a report by Reuters, minimal traces of radioactive waste have been detected where the 2012 Olympic Park is to be constructed. Officials indicated that the findings pose no danger to workers clearing the area or to the public. It is believed that shops and factories formerly located on the site used radium paint, accounting for the radioactive readings.

"Health and safety is our major priority. This report makes clear the health of the public or workers has not been put at risk," said David Higgins, the Chief Executive of the Olympic Delivery Authority. "We do want to be open and transparent about our work cleaning up the site. That is why we are publishing this expert report, commissioned immediately after this find, which confirms this initial assessment. It is important this find is kept in perspective. It demonstrates our procedures are working and we are already acting on the recommendations from our experts to strengthen them further."
