Minnesota and Michigan Pick Up Big Ten Swimming and Diving Honors

CHICAGO, Illinois, October 16. THE Big Ten Conference named Minnesota's Jon Roberts (swimmer) and Michigan's Kyle Schroeder (diver) as its male Athletes of the Week this week.

Roberts and the Minnesota Gophers nearly upset No. 8 Florida this weekend, finishing a mere 16 points behind the Gators. Roberts racked up quality points for his team with two first-place finishes and one second-place. His time of 54.89 in the 100 breaststroke met the NCAA B cut time. His performance in the 200 medley relay guided the quartet in posting an NCAA "B" cut time as well (1:28.86). The junior Gopher takes home his first weekly honor.

Off the springboard, Schroeder helped the Wolverines to a victory over Eastern Michigan with two first-place finishes. His performances on the one- (300.55) and three-meter (316.10) diving boards earned him a spot at the NCAA qualifying meet in March. This is the junior diver's first weekly award.
