Rice’s Brittany Massengale Named Conference USA Swimmer of the Week

IRVING, Texas, October 16. RICE senior Brittany Massengale has been named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week for Oct. 14 the C-USA league office announced on Tuesday (Oct. 16). Massengale won all five individual events she was entered in last week to help lead the Rice swim team to four dual meet wins. The senior from Alma, Ark., won both the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle twice. Her best times in the those events, 4:59.64 in the 500 and 10:11.23 in the 1000, are currently the top marks in the conference. Massengale also took the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle with a C-USA best 1:53.78. As the anchor of one of the Owls' 200-yard freestyle relay teams, she helped the Blue & Gray claim a come-from-behind win over meet host New Mexico State in the team scoring.

It is the fourth time in Massengale's Rice career that she has been named the C-USA Swimmer of the Week. The Owl swimmers next compete at the Phill Hansel Duals, a five team meet hosted by the University of Houston on Oct. 26-27.
