Tae Hwan Park Named Korean Athlete of the Year -- October 13, 2007

SEOUL, South Korea, October 13. ACCORDING to an article at Korea.net, Tae Hwan Park has been named Korea's Athlete of the Year.

This has been a banner year for the Korean. Recently, the country named him as one of two goodwill ambassadors, as reported here. The year started off right for Park, as he used an incredible final 100-meter surge to claim his first world championship gold medal in the 400 free in Melbourne. Park closed the event with a time of 3:44.30, after turning fifth at the 300-meter mark.

"When I saw my name on the screen I forgot how I was feeling," Park said at the time. "I am the first Korean world champion in (swimming) history. Mentally I feel really tired, but after winning the gold I feel very confident. It was good luck that I could make this pace. Hackett was in first since the start, I was trying to follow him but it did not really work. I was able to overcome him just in the last 50."
