Xavier Women Top Marshall in Home Opener, 79.5-42.5

CINCINNATI, Ohio, October 12. THE Xavier women's swim team had one or its best dual meets in a long time to open the regular season portion of the 2007-08 schedule with a 79.5-42.5 win over Marshall Friday night in O'Conner Sports Center. Three pool and two school records were set by the Musketeers in the big win over the Thundering Herd.

"I am so proud of all the team members that competed today and look forward to continuing this success throughout the entire season," said head coach Steve Riegler following the home opener.

Freshman Kari Peglar set a pool and school record in both the 500 (5:04.70) and 1000 Free (10:25.65) and was also a member of the pool-record setting 800 Free Relay (7:54.45) along with sophomores Alison Johnson, Annelise Hoyland and Elaina Suba.

Peglar's 500 Free time was almost a whole second better than the previous record set in 2006 by Jill Cooke (5:05.75) and her 1000 Free time was nearly 10 seconds better than Cooke's previous record of 10:34.35.

Senior Mary Kuhnen took first place in the 50 Back with a time of 28.96 and first in the 100 Back (1:01.44) as well. Suba came in first in the 100 Fly (59.49) and Johnson took first in the 100 Free (54.52).

The Musketeers return to action next Friday, Oct. 19, as both the men and women will play host to Valparaiso. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. in the O'Conner Sports Center. Please continue to check www.GOXAVIER.com for the latest updates and top times.
