Limestone Men’s Swimming Edges Gardner-Webb 190-184; Lady Saints Fall To Bulldogs 220-136

GAFFNEY, South Carolina, October 12. THE Limestone College men's swim team got its first victory of the season with 190-184 victory over Gardner-Webb University in a relay meet on Friday night at the Timken Aquatic Center. The teams were tied heading into the final event, but the Saints came up with the win. The Lady Saints dropped their meet to the Lady Bulldogs, 220-136.

On the men's side, Limestone got wins in the 300 butterfly, 300 breaststroke, 800 freestyle, 400 medley, and 200 free. The Lady Saints won the 300 backstroke.

Limestone's team of Jordens, Melin, Karaman, and McKenzie finished first in the 400 freestyle to win the event for Limestone (3:15.70). Zeljko Karaman (Split, Croatia), Matt Parsonage (Durban, South Africa), and Craig Jordens (Cape Town, South Africa) won the men's 300 butterfly in 2:40.40. ). The Saints picked up another victory in the 800 free as Karaman, Ryan Mead (Lexington, S.C.), Adam Caldwell (Marietta, Ga.), and Anders Melin (Karlstad, Sweden) posted a time of 7:22.08. Melin, Caldwell, Mead, and Karaman finished first in the 500 free crescendo (4:34.01). Melin, McKenzie, Parsonage, and Jordens won the 400 medley (3:33.64). Turner, Melin, McKenzie, and Jordens took first in the 200 free (1:30.84).

The Saints' Tariq Turner (Anderson, S.C.), Daniel Bethke (Charleston, S.C.), and Jordens were second in the 300 backstroke (3:06.62). McKenzie, Parsonage, and Bethke won the 300 breaststroke (3:03.99). McKenzie, Parsonage, Bethke, and Jordens took second in the same event (7:39.01). In the 1500 free, Caldwell, Mead, and Karaman were second (15:27.90). Parsonage, McKenzie, Williams, and Karaman were second in the 400 IM (3:44.98).

The Lady Saints' 300 backstroke team of Donna Wickham (Tacarigua, Trinidad & Tobago), Marija Grubic (Split, Croatia), and Renee Pouchet (Maraval, Trinidad & Tobago) came in first with a time of 2:59.97.

Limestone's Pouchet, Shelley Hutcheson (Greenville, S.C.), Wickham, and Adams were second in the 200 free (148.04). Speranda, Reichwald, and Grubic finished second in the 1500 free (11:00.10).

Gardner-Webb's women's 300 butterfly team of Leslie Hallquist, Rachel Warkentin, and Whitney Hooley finished first (3:02.99). ). Isabel Olivas, Stephani Stadnik, and Sarah Stokes were first in the 300 breaststroke (3:33.87). In the 800 free, Erin Pledger, Kelly Gueltig, Hallquist, and Elizabeth Ketterer were first (8:13.22). Mallory Baxter, Rachel Glenn, Grace Whiteside, and Heather Roka won the crescendo freestyle (4:52.61). Hooley, Stokes, Steadman, and Gueltig were first in the 400 medley (4:10.63), as Kibler, Ketterer, Gueltig, and Olivas won the 200 free (1:43.16). Hallquist, Whiteside, and Learned won the 1500 free (16:39.45). Steadman, Olivas, Roka and Baxter won the 400 individual medley (4:17.92). Ketterer, Yergler, Stadnik, and Whiteside came in first in the 400 free with a time of 3:45.97.

In the 300 backstroke, Corey Hughey, Sarah Steadman, and Victoria Bryant took second (3:02.60) for GWU. Bryant, Warkentin, Blessing and Stokes finished second in the 400 IM (4:23.10). In the 400 free, Kibler, Pledger, Hughey, and Hooley were second (3:51.73).

Gardner-Webb's Craig South, Kyle Hooley, and Adam Middleton were first in the 300 backstroke (2:47.15), while Roka, Miller, and Suggs won the 1500 free (15:14.28). The team also picked up a victory in the 400 IM as Caudell, Elderding, South, and Middleton posted a time of 3:43.44.

The Bulldogs' Steven Caudell, Denaj Seymour, and Travis Gibson took second in the men's 300 fly (2:42.16) as Patrick Elerding, Patrick Williams, and Smith placed second in the 300 breaststroke (3:11.63). Adam Suggs, George Partin, Eric Kegley, and Abram Miller were second in the 800 free (7:27.39). Hooley, Elderding, Caudell, and Partin were second in the 400 medley (3:37.69), and Hooley, Partin, Seymour, and Williams finished second in the 200 free (1:42.00). In the 400 freestyle, Seymour, Partin, Caudill, and Hooley were second (3:18.69).

Limestone travels to the Catawba Boo Bash Relays on October 20 at 10 a.m. in Salisbury, N.C.
