Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen Nabs Three More World Records -- September 28, 2007

WHIDBEY ISLAND, Washington, September 28. KARLYN Pipes-Neilsen, 45, dropped in on the 10th Annual Short Course Meters Pentathlon hosted by North Whidbey Island Masters and treated the local crowd to three FINA world-record breaking performances.

Pipes-Neilsen got the ball rolling with a swift 29.98 in the 50-meter butterfly, nipping the previous world mark of 30.02 set by Germany's Karen Seik and the USMS record of 30.18 set by Lisa Dahl, both done in 2006.

Next up, Pipes-Neilsen swam a well-paced 100-meter back (32.89, 33.55) on her way to a time of 1:06.44, demolishing the current global and national standard of 1:09.20 set by Vibeke Swanson in December of last year.

Saving the best for last, Pipes-Neilsen attacked her world record for the 400-meter IM by posting a time of 5:09.02 taking more than five seconds off her previous best of 5:14.73 set in March while competing at the French Masters Short Course Nationals in Angers, France.

Pipes-Neilsen will be inducted into the International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame in a ceremony to be held during the United States Aquatic Sports Convention in Anaheim, Calif. Pipes-Neilsen has set a FINA World record in every stroke, in a variety of distances and her numerous records span four age-groups (30-34, 35-39, 40-44 and 45-49).
