Urquhart Leaving Malaysia

PETALING JAYA, Malaysia, September 20. GAVIN Urquhart, who has been guiding the Malaysian Swim Team, is leaving his position. The Australian was contracted through the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, but Urquhart opted to end his contract early. Urquhart, connected with the Western Australian Institute of Sport, cited his engagement as one reason for returning to Australia. Urquhart will coach at the SEA Games for his last major competition.

Urquhart has helped elevate the level of performance in Malaysia, which boasts 14 athletes working at the National Aquatic Center. One of Urquhart's swimmers, Daniel Bego, has qualified for the Olympics in the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly. Bego won silver medals in the 100 fly and 200 fly at last year's World Youth Championships.
