Brazilian Championships: Gabriella Silva Sets South American Record in 50 Fly

FLORIANOPOLIS, Brazil, September 7. IN the final day of swimming at the Brazilian Championships, also known as the Jose Finkel Trophy, Gabriella Silva set a South American record in the women's 50 fly with a time of 27.55. Meanwhile, three more meet records fell by the wayside.

Thiago Pereira turned in a 3:53.45 readout in the men's 400 freestyle, while Nicholas Santos touched in 24.10 in the men's 50 fly. Additionally, Pereira, Marcus Botega, Rodrigo Castro and Nicolas Olveira clocked a 7:24.71 in the men's 800 freestyle relay as all three efforts surpassed previous meet standards.

Other winners included Monique Ferreira in the women's 400 free (4:18.24), Joanna Maranhao in the women's 200 back (2:17.49), Lucas Salatta in the men's 200 back (1:59.88) and the women's 800 free relay foursome (8:29.23) of Manuella Lyrio, Ferreira, Poliana Okimoto and Tatiana Barbosa.

Club Pinheiros won the overall team title with 1,710 points, while winning the men's title with 977 points. Pinheiros took second in the women's race with 733 points behind Unisanta's first-place 740 points.
