Valerio Cleri, Martina Grimaldi Win Seventh Stop of FINA Marathon Swimming World Open Water Cup

VIENNA, Austria, August 26. A pair of Italians ruled during the seventh stop of the FINA Marathon Swimming World Open Water Cup held in Vienna, Austria. Valerio Cleri emerged triumphant from the men's 10K race, while Martina Grimaldi surfaced with the victory in the women's event of the same distance.

Cleri clocked in at 1:54:03.25 for the win among the men, while Maarten van dee Weijden took second in 1:54:05.64. Greece's Spyridon Giaoniotis rounded out the top three in 1:54:07.23.

For the women, Grimaldi recorded a 2:02:45.70 to win, while Germany's Angela Maurer finished second in 2:02:46.24. Former Swimming World Magazine Open Water Swimmer of the Year Edith Van Dijk of the Netherlands came out of retirement with a third-place effort of 2:02:47.24.

The next stop comes Sept. 23 in Shantou, China.
