Germany’s Toni Franz, Cathleen Rund Win 5K European Open Water Swimming Cup Stop in Spain

NAVIA, Spain, August 12. GERMANY emerged from the pack to win both the men's and women's titles in the 5K race held in Navia, Spain. The competition is a part of the European Open Water Swimming Cup series.

Toni Franz surfaced victorious from a tightly-contested men's race. Franz stopped the clock in 56:18, while France's Julien Codevelle finished second in 56:20. Spain picked up third and fourth, as Diego Nogueira (56:21) and Francisco Jose Hervas (56:24) each finished in the 56s.

Cathleen Rund gave the Germans the title sweep with a 1:01:06 to win the women's crown over compatriot Alessa Doerling (1:01:08). Spain finished third and fourth, again, as Margarita Dominguez placed third in 1:01:12 and Carolina Beneyto took fourth in 1:01:29.
