Middle Tyger Sweeps Men’s and Women’s Team Titles at YMCA National Championships

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, August 3. MIDDLE Tyger defended its YMCA National Championship team title, this time sweeping both the men's and women's titles at the meet in College Park, Md.

Middle Tyger amassed 540 points in the men's race, with the closest competition coming from second-place finisher Countryside Ralph Stolle (361 points). New Canaan Community placed third with 308 points.

Middle Tyger's women accumulated 482 points to finish well ahead of Farmington Family's 314-point effort. Countryside Ralph Stolle wound up third with 237 points after winning a tight battle with Winston Salem, which took fourth with 227 points.

Middle Tyger's team of Addie Carne, Morgan Klinzing, Elizabeth Moore and Haley Lips won the women's 200 medley relay in 1:49.74 to start off the final night of competition. The squad's men doubled Middle Tyger's pleasure when Graham Kauffman, Chris Reinke, Lee Groseclose and Collin Ohning nabbed the men's 200 medley relay in 1:37.69.

In the 200 butterfly, Julianna Prim, 16, of Winston Salem claimed the women's title in 2:17.41, while Luke Bushman, 16, of Green Bay Metro won the men's crown in 2:05.20.

Lauren Solernou, 14, of Cheshire touched first in the women's 50 back with a time of 30.69, while Jim Barbiere, 17, of Countryside Ralph Stolle snagged the men's 50 back in 27.81.

Lindsay Graessle of Countryside Ralph Stolle earned the women's 100 breast crown in 1:12.71, while teammate Justin Farra brought home the men's trophy in 1:07.00.

Farmington Family's foursome of Megan Bender, Brynn Marecki, Katya Bachrouche and Laura Timson won the women's 400 medley relay in 4:24.22, while Middle Tyger's contingent of Bo Farr, Jared Kauffman, David Ingraham and Groseclose touched first in the men's 400 medley relay with a time of 3:58.77.

Caroline Smith, 16, of Winston Salem captured the women's 1500 free in 17:04.35, while Travis Green, 16, of Huntington dominated the men's 1500 free in 16:22.88.
